Yepme.com Fashion Tips for a First Date

March 19, 2012 Leave a comment

Dressing up is always tricky for a first date as you are yet to know your probable partner well. While confidence is one of the key ingredients, there are some Yepme.com tips that one can follow to make a good impression.

Be comfortable – Your dressing on a first date should definitely spell ‘you’! There is no point if your date cannot gauge the real person behind the clothes. Instead of overdressing to create an impact, choose something that you are comfortable in. Go for something that you would wear out with friends and you can never go wrong.

Formal vs. Casual dining – Choice of garments also depends on the destination for the date. If a movie or a casual dinner is on the cards, a good pair of denims and a polo T-shirt is perfect. If it’s fine dining, semi formal dark coloured pants with an elegant party shirt will look cool. Also ensure that your footwear is suited to the mood of the date. A casual evening out can be in sneakers or flip flops, but if you are going to a nice restaurant, loafers or oxford shoes will definitely add to the look.

Date in a Club – If clubbing is a first date option for you, make sure that your dressing also showcases your wild side. Do not be afraid to put on your best blazer and a slim fit pair of jeans with a striking shirt inside. Team this with leather shoes to complete the look.

Outdoor on a date – A picnic is one of the most endearing date ideas and outdoors gives you multiple options in dressing as well.  A nice bright tee-shirt and a pair of shorts with sneakers is a great outdoor option. Effortless and casual, this is sure to make a good impression.

Yepme.com Tips for Transitioning Your Wardrobe – From Winter to Spring

March 13, 2012 Leave a comment

The biggest challenge in dressing comes with seasonality and matching your clothes with the seasons. The change in seasons can bring about subtle changes or even major overhauls in your dressing. To make sure you stay on top of fashion trends, here are some handy Yepme.com tips for easy transition from Winter to Spring.

  • Woollen Bygones – The most important transition is to do away with the heavy duty apparel which saw you through the harsh cold. Even if your office is air conditioned, woollens, heavy trousers, turtle necks, and jackets can go back in the box for the next winter. But be prepared with accessible semi winter clothing, as there could be a recurring cold wave in the early weeks of Spring.
  • Spring Colours –Spring spells easy colours, lighter shades and soft pale palettes. Even light shades of colours like pink, yellow and blue are acceptable in Spring. Move away from earthy tones and dark colours to celebrate the arrival of the friendliest season of the year.
  • Spring Vs Summer –Be careful of not shifting to Summer mode all too soon. Spring is not quite the season to sport sandals or short sleeved shirts. Stick with long sleeve shirts, long pants and light jackets to welcome Spring.
  • Accessories – Sometimes accessories can play a big role in dressing for the right season. For example, more fashionable sun glasses are better suited for Spring, as it’s the perfect season to show off your style.

Yepme.com Fashion for Holi – Attire for the most Colourful Festival

March 7, 2012 Leave a comment

Leave the traditional view of dressing on Holi and gear up for a fashionable festival this year! In this article we at Yepme.com celebrate the best of Holi fashion, for colour plays in the morning, and evening parties with family and friends.

Mornings: For the maximum fun in the mornings, all white attire is the best bet. It will be all the more fun to see the splash of colours come out alive on bright white. Choose between a traditional kurta pajama or a white tee with light pants to make an inviting appearance for all those who want to douse you in colours. A pair of jeans and a white shirt will also work well. If not white, choose light shades in cream, pink or yellow. Also keep the skin safe during the festivities with these handy tips:

  • A full sleeve shirt can limit the amount of colour reaching your skin.
  • A nice cap can save the hair from the colour onslaught or go for a bandana to make a stylish appearance.
  • With closed shoes water and colour can seep in and stay. A snazzy pair of flip flops will help air your feet and dry them quickly.

Evenings: Once the frenzied colour throwing is over, shift the mood to something more stylish for the evening.  For attending family and friend parties, traditional clothing will be perfect. Else go for a sleek look with a Giza premium shirt and slim fit pants. Accessorise and complement with a blazer or jacket if there is a nip in the air. For a casual meeting with friends, don a pair of distressed jeans with a check shirt and enjoy the festivities through the evening and night.

Color plays a significant role in your dressing and makes a great impact on your look. Here are some of the basic color tips that will help you sharpen your style:

Adjoining colors – Analogues (or adjoining colors) go very well if they are similar. For example, blue and indigo are good analogue colors. These are next to each other on the color wheel and make a good combination.

The Classic White – A plain, immaculately clean and crisp white collared shirt works with anything. Pair it up with formal pants, or just denims and you are assured a great look.

Using Greys Intelligently – Grey is one those colors which spells class and poise. Use this to match paler shades. Dark grey trousers with light colors of shirts are a perfect combination for office wear.

The Power of Neutral – Neutral shades like blacks, whites, greys, and shades of beige are great to balance your wardrobe. These work well with brighter shades and are the safest colors for trousers.

Discovering your own colors – Color selection helps not only within apparel components but also with your own complexion. For example, skin tone and eye color play an important role to choose the right shade of your apparel. If your skin and eyes are light, warm shades like yellows, hot pinks and royal blues are best suited. For darker skin tones, cool shades of color like blues, green, aqua and even pale browns fit well.

February 14, 2012 Leave a comment

Contrary to popular beliefs, Valentine’s Day is not just celebrated by couples. Many single men and women celebrate their singledom with other singles, and fashion is not to be given a miss if you are stepping out to enjoy the day. The idea is to carry your own style confidently, projecting your individuality, and look the best among everybody that you come across.

But a few variations to your look can be done depending on the hangout spot for the evening. If you are going out with your friends to your usual watering hole, keep it simple with a bold print tee and washed jeans; or a casual linen shirt or denim or turtle neck shirt with faded denims. You have the option of linen pants or casual khakis with a non formal shirt as well. Choose the colours according to the time of the day. Darker the hours, darker the clothing – you cannot go wrong with this mantra.

But if you are spending the evening with friends in a cosy restaurant for dinner, ensure that you dress sharp enough to stand out amongst the crowd. A solid colour turtle neck shirt paired with vintage wash denim along with dark tan brown casual shoes can bring out a great look. The idea is to look relaxed and comfortable with your choice of clothes in order to stand out. So go ahead and be the rebel in celebrating your singledom in a bold, classy way. Let the heads turn because of your own style quotient.

But before we start, it’s a good idea to decide where you will be through the day and in the evening. Depending on that, plan ahead and look your best!

For an Outdoor Picnic

If the day is going to spell good weather, this might be a great idea. Take on the responsibility of finding everything the location has to offer, and arrive in your best casuals.  Linen pants, a casual half sleeve shirt and easy slip-ons are enough to give you a great laid-back outdoorsy look. Else, go with the bold tee and jeans. The jeans could be as casual as damaged or faded to give that rustic look.

Clubbing on Valentine’s Day

Many youngsters choose to spend the Valentine’s Day evening with their loved ones, enjoying club music and dancing. In this case you will have to spruce up your look. Non pleated formal pants in dark grey or black with a magenta or green stripes party shirt can look dashing. The other attractive colours of the season are red, blue and purple. Good accessories and footwear will again add to your look. So go for a fine leather belt, colour co-ordinated with shoes.

At Home Candlelit Dinner

Lot of young couples celebrate Valentine’s Day in the exclusivity of their home with a home cooked dinner, but you should play your part in making the evening memorable. Dress yourself in a neat block check shirt (black, white and red is a cool combination) and pair it with casual blue or black jeans. Comfortable dressing like these can help you chill-out and relax to suit the part for this most romantic day in the calendar.

Yepme.com Fashion Guide – History of Denim & Jeans

December 26, 2011 Leave a comment

History of Denim & JeansOrigins: The sturdy denim was originally a fabric called ‘Serge’ from the city of Nîmes in France. It was called Serge de Nîmes and eventually got shortened to ‘denim’ (de Nîmes). The word ‘jeans’ comes from the French phrase bleu de Genes, meaning the blue of Genoa to indicate the jeans worn by Italian sailors from Genoa that were dyed blue with the Indigo.

Evolution: Jeans was originally worn by slaves who worked in plantations. In 1853, during the SanFrancisco gold mining rush, Levi Strauss started supplying clothes to miners who wanted trousers that would not tear easily. In 1872 Jacob Davis had the idea of using metal rivets to fasten the pockets to the pants and worked out a deal by which Levi Strauss patented it and thus was born the copper riveted Jeans. The ‘Cowboys’ in the Hollywood western movies   popularized Jeans in the 1930s. In the 1950s Jeans became the symbol of teen rebels. In the 1960s the hippie culture brought painted and embroidered Jeans into fashion and soon Jeans became a symbol of western opulence. It is only from the 1970s that Jeans actually became an affordable comfort wear, popular across the world.

Fabric and the Garment: Even though the cotton twill fabric, i.e. Denim, has been almost synonymous with Jeans pants for a long time, both the fabric and the garment have evolved. Jeans is now made with different materials and in different colours and denim has also expanded into other garments like shorts, shirts, jackets, wallets, bags, hats and even parkas . Denim signifies casual, trendy and relaxed fabric and we at Yepme.com think it is an essential fabric in a man’s casual wear wardrobe.
